shoulder arthroscopic surgery, but now muscle in arm might have torn?

hi I'm an 18 year old athletic male who had arthroscopic surgery on my shoulder 9 days ago. I have my sling and my ice pack on all day. recently I saw that when I had both off, there seemed to be a swelling under my arm. it is about half way up between the elbow and armpit. it is in the flat area that is usually unexposed to the sun. my concern is that it actually looks like a muscle may be disconnected. that strap around my bicep area was tight, and I'm just concerned maybe it had damaged the muscle? or maybe perhaps it's just swollen? any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

I can only guess, so you should probably call the doctor. I would think it is just swelling. Were you told to keep the arm elevated? It does make a difference.

thanks for the reply. i do keep it elevated because its my shoulder. but if it's swelling that has moved down my arm that could be it. i have my 2 week checkup on Wednesday so i will have the doctors advice, it just worried me when I saw it. i want to make sure it's not possibly a muscle cut from surgery that is just hanging there or something else that isnt good

Very doubtful a muscle is cut, though as we all know mistakes happen. It is typical though to have swelling and it doesn't start right away. When I had a broken jaw, the swelling and the bruising moved down to my chest. When I had surgery on my wrist, my fingers started to swell but then I elevated the arm and it helped.
Hopefully things are fine and you are just experiencing the "thrills" of surgery.
