Should you buy a new mtn bike with disc brakes ?

are disc brakes on a mtn bike the only way to go?
Should you buy a new mtn bike with disc brakes ? or go with regular brakes ?
is it worth the extra 100?
Are they hard to work on? regular brakes are really easy to work on.
