should we try to fulfill our desire or should we win over our desire?And why?

please mention ,are Atheist,religious (mention religion also) ,spiritual ...etc while answering.
desire here is the desire for material things.
when i fulfill one of my desire thinking this will satisfy me ,another desire crops up.
so whats the point of fulfilling desires i am always unsatisfied.
