Should They Remake The Wizard Of Oz?

And Dorothy is going to be turned into a sort of action hero and there are to be no singing Munchkins! I don't care if the original is nearly 70 years old, this just isn't right! If you're a friend of Dorothy (as she has been for all this time) make your views known!

Yes, Laurel and Hardy, blah-de-blah, etc., but Judy Garland's version is the *definitive* one of them all and is a classic. Anyone prepared to repaint the Mona Lisa? I don't think so!

I've decided - I'm going to watch it again tonight, timely-wayz! (Well, this evening - I'm going out tonight so obviously it wouldn't really be good to say you're staying in to watch The Wizard Of Oz, no matter how great it is! :D )

Dorothy an all action hero?! the horror!

the appeal of wizard of oz (and yes the Garland one is the definitive one) is that it's pure escapism and anyone who feels trapped in their current environment can empathise with the positive messages and images it spouts.

a dark version may not be successful but interesting...I didn't like Return to Oz as I felt it was too dark and not enough light moments...plus those wheelies were scary!!!

I would prefer a more literal version of the original books as they are more child like but have their dark moments too.

FYI the witch in the book did die of water being chucked on her, wasn't green and used an umbrella instead of a broom.

hell no, its a classic and should remain that way.

hollywood has really run out of ideas, what next

sound of music 2 : payback
chitty chitty bang bang: toyoko drift
mary poppins vs terminator
the list is endless

No - it would always be compared with the original

If they want to make a OZ movie make it out one of the other books

I liked Return to Oz - i got it on Dvd for

I wouldnt mind to see a remake of it but i would hate it to have dorothy as an action hero type character, it just wouldnt work.

I think it would be interesting to see a different take on a classic. I've enjoyed a lot of Oz films (return to oz and all the cartoons), its a good story. a remake would open it to a new audience that wouldnt appreciate the Judy Garland version. I'd like them to keep the munchikins but only if they have decent ones (i'm thinking about the remake of charlie and the chocolate factory- i hated the oompa loompas in that)
