Should the government dictate how much the citizen owns and how much things cost?

Would you agree with the following:

"Government should assume ownership over all commodities, consumers, and the means of production. So everyone gets paid the same and everything costs the same as the government sees fit. Everyone gets exactly one iPod and one laptop. No exceptions."
 
Not really. But it should regulate. Ex. Should the government let the water be privatize? Who does the water belong? Can we assign an owner to the clouds? We can however let a company process the water and regulate that company so the water is clean. But what happens when we allow other agencies to de- regulate and the water becomes unsafe to drink. That is what is happening now in some rural areas. See the documentary "GASLAND".

If everybody would get paid the same, you would kill the ambition to do better. People for the most part have a pride in doing a great job and becoming the best you can be at what ever you decide to do. My son in law had the opportunity to go over there to train some and he said people are very happy with the government arrangement.
I do not agree that those companies received subsidies to move instead of Bush asking them to invest their own money to expand instead of move.

What you describe is not even practice in communists countries.

In China, for ex. Companies that move there do not own what they took there. At the minute it touched their soil it became the government's. The people who work for some auto companies get everything paid for. No insurance but all the medical and hospital and what ever is needed is paid by the auto companies. They also have to provide shuttle service to and from work and housing. But their labor wages are less than $7. So, you can imagine. Their engineers make well over $15 per hour but when you have nothing to worry you do not mind.

@ a: You just mentioned a Bible verse. " to make sure no one gets to rich that they forget God and not to poor that they get disheartened and stop living". Where can I find information.
 
Even the Chinese have abandoned micromanaging the economy. Of course their goal is still a classless society, but theory should never get in the way of providing citizens with their legitimate wants and needs and the Soviet experience shows that central planning has some severe practical limitations in achieving that. Perhaps someday, mankind and production technology will have evolved enough to make communism practical, but for now, Frank Zappa said it best: "communism doesn't work because people like to own stuff"
 
No but they should regulate or you wind up with price fixing and they should make sure nobody gets to rich or too poor.
