Should peter jackson remake the original jaws?

I think it would be great if he did. Even though the first one is a classic it would be nice if it had better special fx. In my opinion he did a great job at king kong even though it was a tad too long. He would be the best director to make a new version of the shark classic.

I think Jaws really doesnt need remaking, there is maybe a few seconRAB in jaws were the effects look dated or dodgy but other then that the movie is near enough perfect.
Apparently we were supposed to see much more of the shark but they knew how unconvincing it looked close up so they decided to go with the barrel scenes instead which worked wonders tension wise.

I think near enough shot for shot remakes are pointless, such as the recent Omen. And if they're going to do it differently, then just call it something different as well and be done with it.

How about a horror film called 'They' instead, focussing on a shadowy cabal of Hollywood filmakers who put the willies up film purists by tampering with old much loved movies ;-0 Tagline: 'They must be stopped!'
Grr, it's only a movie, people. But yes, if it's Jaws, don't mess!

It was dealing with the problems associated with the Shark which turned a water based stalk and (Bite) movie into something far better.

Modern effects do not make for a better movie.

okay how about a comprise, keep all the footage of the actors, but let George Lucas and co redo the shark in CGI.
honestly, it's not like he would be tempted to tamper with the direction...

I don't mind that they're remaking The BirRAB because they can do a lot more with the idea. Jaws cannot be remade because what's special about it (the performances, Spielberg's classic direction, the limited use of the shark they had etc.) could only exist there and then at that time. Making it now it would be so sterilized.

The BirRAB will work well with new effects but they would just ruin Jaws. I hope they create the shot in The BirRAB remake that Alfred Hitchcock wanted to do to end the film but couldn't, which was the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco completely covered with birRAB.

I really don't see the need to remake a classic film. What we want is new, fresh ideas and films, not re-cycled material.

I can't remember seeing a remake that was as good as, let alone better, than the original.

I second all the Nos. Jaws is my fave film and cannot be improved. Also, I don't believe special effects add much to films - script, story and characterisation are so much more important.

This glut of remakes is just lazy, money-minded filmmaking (as testified by MGM's admission that they are trawling through their library to find movies to "re-imagine").

No thanks. The tampered version of ET is horrible, just horrible. The CG version actually looks worse than the one in three dimensions.

And that's a key thing... the 'solidness' of a model, even an imperfect model, is much better than a perfect drawing that's in fewer dimensions.

And George Lucas isn't the man for the job. Weta, Peter Jackson's lot have long surpassed ILM in my opinion (think Kong and Gollum versus Yoda and you'll know what I mean).

As others have said, Jaws is one of the most perfect movies in cinema history. I still watch in awe at the quality of the script, the cinematography, the performances, the editing... the rubber shark is neither here nor there.
