in Afghanistan? ? Now before people start calling me genocidal; I deplore the purpose-full killing of innocent civilians; and the accidental deaths of civilians is a sad things always.
Let me explain better.
I recently finished reading the book; Robert's Ridge; about the battle atop Takur Ghar in 2002; as is much of the country; it was a more isolated part with few civilians in the area; but it was occuppied with many of the bad guys at the time. In places like that; with little or no permanent civilian population; should any of the coalition forces there use chemical weapons use a limited amount of chemical weapons to kill the muslim extremist fighters before any ground troops go in; minimizing our losses and maximizing the enemy's.
Chemical weapons; especially the more advanced corrosive kinds; like sarin or VX nerve agent; could be pumped into cave complexes to clear it out; or targeted over very specific areas with various dispersal devices.
Now I know about the possibility of wind spreading the gas as it blows; and that might cause further unwanted casualties; but gas does dissapate in time and specifically targetting its release would help diminish collateral damage.

I am not talking about widespread use over all Afghanistan; but targeted use and limited amounts used.
So should we use chemical weapons to kill entreched enemies in some situations where they are more isolated from civilians?

Chemical weapons are only effective against highly populated targets like cities. They'd be worthless in that situation.

Even when used in massive quantities, like in WW1, they weren't effective. Which is why they weren't used in WW2.

From even a purely practical standpoint there's no reason to use them.

Yes ..

Sometimes WP bombs using against cave's and similar targets by Nato at Afghanistan , like Iraq and other battle zones. WP bombs are forbidden too but under some very special circumstances Nato forces was use those weapons(like hit the ammo) at Afghan battlefields.

And Nope ..

VX or replicas not using at there by Nato force's , never .. u can't control aerosol or gas weapons easly .. especially that kind of huge open field's and no one wanna kill the civilians with gas accident.. russians was use that kind of weapons at first Afghan war but gas bombs doesn't brings the victory to them because weather conditions (too windy) and big fields (If u wanna cover a big valley u need lot of gas carrier bombs, hard to coordinate) too risky (even for your soldiers) .. pointless

p.s : there is so many simple solutions avaible for clear the cave's like this .. A f16 gave a direct hit with laser guidance bomb .. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v466/kaanyagizer/kapak.gif , because many caves had connection to other caves, like a underworld city. Close the caves with paveways .. this is the best way and Gas isn't usefull under this condition. (russians was had same troubles about that caves)
