I'm still upset that my history teacher just randomly brought up the DNC and RNC and praised Obama for no reason. We were trying to learn about the colonies. She was trying to think of something to say. And then she just dragged politics into it for no apparent reason. Trust me, I tried to find a connection, and there was none.

I'm insulted. I don't understand why teachers drag their political views and dump them on us. Should this be stopped?

1 i'm guessing your in college?? if so then you have your own opinions and views, and if your teacher is "brainwashing" you by just giving her opinion then maybe you shouldnt be in college, possibly just go find a cult in texas or something. 2 if your in high school, you cant vote this year anyways so what does it matter 4 years from now your going to forget what she/he said and be happy voting for who you want.... 3 next time why dont you just ask the teacher politly to pick up where she left off or where she was going with the subject, and remind her that her talking her opinions is for after class....
but at the same time if your learning about our country, then isnt voting, and politics key to our survival and growth?? so there is a connection! maybe not exactly to what she was talking about, but learning about our country goes hand in hand with politics...

teachers should not really discuss about politics in such a personal way, but they also want to express their opinions. if you felt insulted, try talking to your teacher. that will prevent hin/her from bringing those subjects in class again and making students feel insulted.

I believe that there is nothing more appropriate to talk about at this time than the elections. The Colonies and the history of the USA have a direct connection to the study of the early days of our country.

I am sorry you felt insulted, and perhaps the teacher didn't use the best teaching methods to discuss the events, but unless you have a good grasp of American History, then you have absolutely no idea how monunental this election season has been and will contiue to be!

She probably didn't need to express her views, unless she was directly asked, but since you are not old enough to vote, and she was not influencing your vote, what she did was not unethical, nor was it insulting.

Are you aware that in the entire history of our country, there has NEVER been an African American rise to the political level that Barrack Obama has attained. It is entirely possible that he might become the next president. He would be the first African American president of the United States of America -- that is a monumental thing to consider. It is also monumental because of Sarah Palin, as the vice president. We have never had a woman vice president, and that too will be a first for our country.

The people who settled in the colonies are the ones who started the government of this country, so what they did directly affects us today.

Get over your anger! This teacher did you a great big favor, by allowing you to discuss the most current news of our day.

I think teachers should talk about polotics, so the students will be up with current events, but shouldn't be praising a certain canidate. Just the facts mostly, the teacher should not bring out a lot of opinion.

Jan H had great things to say. I try to keep my personal political beliefs out of the classroom, but it sometimes comes out. Perhaps she was trying to engage you in a discussion or debate... if you disagree with her, bring it up in class. If you think she's right, tell her why.

It's current events, which is a major part of any history course.

Because teachers think that they are GOD in their classroom. You could make a complaint to your principal but they will probably back up your teacher..You pretty much have to suck it up unfortunately until you leave this school..BTW it gets even worse in college with professors giving you their slant on the world.

I don't believe its mature to praise etc. but banned is a different story, Welcome to the new world, Get used to it.
