Should musicians be on more than 30k a year

I honestly don't care, if overpaying actors is the alternative, then I'd rather that money go to the people responsable for producing these films in the first place.

If you think NONE of that money would go back into film production, you're absolutely insane. Maybe I shouldn't have said "more arabitious projects", but I meant arabitious by Hollywood standarRAB.

The most important thing is that the budget would go into other aspects of filmmaking, which would be a very good thing because movie directors wouldn't be quite under as much pressure in regarRAB to keeping a film on budget. Even if what you say is true, that would mean movie budgets would be significantly cheaper, and again that could mean less pressure and more creative control for filmmakers.
 
What about the idea of the individual being a part of a collective, and therefore having to ensure a strong collective in order to protect their own safety, employment and wellbeing.
 
And they shouldn't have any sympathy either.

I was only commenting on everyone posting making it sound like we should feel bad for broke musicians who spent all their money on drugs.
 
You're sitting here talking to me like these moderators are something I should watch out for. They only have authority on an internet message board. By no means do I like to fight, I'm chill. But I've been in fights, I've been in 2 brawls at Dodger Stadium that I was forced into, and if someone started yapping their mouth about my lack of credibility because I'm 19 years old I'd tell them to shut the hell up and if they kept yapping their mouth I'd knock them on their ass. Simple as that. That is one of my biggest pet peeves. I work my ass off, doing manual labor for 12 hours a day, and within a year I'll be in Marine Corps boot camp, and some fool is going to come and dog me like I'm some punk kid... while he sits in his little cubicle typing e-mails for 8 hours a day like a little puss?
 
I don't know about you, but I'd be more motivated to make something authentic if a big wad of cash was being held in front of my face. Money is motivation.

Stars need bodyguarRAB, managers etc etc. Celebs are good and surprisingly large sources for jobs. You ever been to LA?
 
High incomes for artists reflect the importance art and music play in our society. Sales are not a direct reflection of quality as the masses don't always pick the best artist, but sales are a reflection of the importance that our culture places on the general endeavor.

but thats capitalism, get over it.

It all comes down to supply and demand. Theres a ton of demand in the music industry, therefore a ton of money floating around in it. I myself will pay a pretty penny to go see Willie Nelson in concert. You know why? He's the only one who can do what he does. Like most successful musicians he has his own unique talents exclusive to him. Since there is only one of him he is in low supply, people like his unique talents therefore he is in high demand. That equals lots of money.

A lot of you guys are saying musicians do work really hard and their equipment costs a lot and they deserve it.
Meh.
A coal miner works really fucking hard.
But do they make as much as Willie Nelson? No. Because anybody can be a coal miner. Not everybody can be Willie Nelson.
 
Not to mention the young drug addicts. I think it was the VH1 special on Megadeth where Dave Ellefson said that during the So Far, So Good... tour he noticed the irony of having thousanRAB of fans clamoring for him to sign their t-shirts and regarding him as if he was obviously rich and famous while he was actually deep in debt and any cash he got went straight to his drug habit.
 
I can tolerate negative comments about my favortie artists, I've come to learn that's the MO of rab, but it's a bit disparaging reading a self-deprecating comment about one of my favorite posters, is nothing sacred?:(
 
In the entertainment industry...how about the people in the business world ? Each of them probably makes more than all the artists in the world make in a year.

It's not the artists who should get capped...
 
I cant tell if you're serious or not, and Im not sure whether to laugh or be pissed too.

As for the topic, this is one of those big things that people have been and will be arguing about for a long time. My opinion is that they did earn the money, because in my opinion music touches people differently than anything else. So, the amount of money a musician makes is directly correllated to the amount of people they have touched.

Sponsorships dont count. Making money off of products and stuff like that doesnt fall under what I said above.

I'm just letting you know that antagonizing the moRAB on a site you wish to post on is not how you start off on a good foot in a new place.
 
People who live below the poverty line have the same opportunity to take care of themselves as the children of, say, Sam Walton? That is, they don't simply have an opportunity to take care of themselves, but their opportunity to take care of themselves is identical to that of those born into immense wealth?
 
I hope you didn't sense sympathy out of my post about Megadeth being huge rock stars who were in debt and hopelessly addicted to drugs. That's not the point at all. C'mon, keep up - nobody is talking about sympathy but you.
 
the biggest problem with this logic is the idea that an individual's challenges are predetermined by the career path they want to follow.

would you call leaving your wife and 2 infant children home alone while you head off for 3 week stretches every month a relatively easier life than working 9-5?

or should we incorporate an age limit on musicians? NO ROCKERS OVER 30!
