technological advancement? Aren't there many ways man can co-exist with nature, without sacrificing technological advancement?
What if the world were full of villages with 30-40 people each. Each one surrounded by farmland. The farmland in turn is surrounded by canals, with fish inside of them. A forest with wild animals surrounds the canals. The canals also separate the wild animals from the farmland. There can be traps, and wild animal bait by the canals, for an additional food source, while at the same time keeping the wild animal population in check. There can still be the same agrarian efficiency that exists today (1.5% of the population), allowing the rest of the labor force to focus on technological advancement and services, much like today.
This is the most harmonious, combination of technology, and nature I can come up with, but I'm sure there are an infinite number of combinations of possible societies and environments that can achieve the same goal, and that are far superior to the current system.
