Should Kids Toons Be Allowed use Nazis When Appropriate?

Except there are parts of the world were the Nazis are not just a page in history, the historical impact of the Nazis felt far more in Germany and Israel then say America or Canada. That's the thing no one has dealt with yet, the nazis are far bigger taboo in some other counties and the people who make kids cartoon want to sell the cartoon in as many markets as possible.

The Nazis are such a taboo that Germany banned Castle Wolfenstein and didn't let the original Star trek series episode with the Nazis air and in Israel you have examples of stuff like this happening: http://israelitybites.blogspot.com/2007/08/bubble-trouble-with-red-skulls-swastika.html

Actually, if it is ONLY mentioned by the producer that this is nazi occupied europe, then no it is NOT "clear" that they are working with the Nazi's... a Story must stand on it's own, as THAT is the only thing the vast majority of the viewers will ever see. Essentially, the viewers who do not read the comments made by producers will not know that the nazi's are even involved in this fight, and only acknowledge the forces of HYDRA

Eeeeeehhhh, I've got to be skeptical for now. The strong impression I get from the news reel in the short is that HYDRA was the big global threat in Cap's backstory for the cartoon; just look at that map showing whole countries being overrun by their forces. If it turns out that the Nazi movement is actually acknowledged in some way, I'll walk back my criticism then. Maybe Red Skull will be himself, who's to say? But given the flags and all, it just doesn't feel like that the Nazis are simply off screen while HYDRA is just a potent ally.

My name is Lt. Aldo Raine and I'm putting together a special team, and I need me eight soldiers. Eight Jewish-American soldiers. Now, y'all might've heard rumors about the armada happening soon. Well, we'll be leaving a little earlier. We're gonna be dropped into France, dressed as civilians. And once we're in enemy territory, as a bushwhackin' guerrilla army, we're gonna be doin' one thing and one thing only... killin' Nazis. Now, I don't know about y'all, but I sure as hell didn't come down from the CENSORED Smoky Mountains, cross five thousand miles of water, fight my way through half of Sicily and jump out of a CENSOREDn' air-o-plane to teach the Nazis lessons in humanity. Nazi ain't got no humanity. They're the foot soldiers of a Jew-hatin', mass murderin' maniac and they need to be dee-stroyed. That's why any and every every son of a CENSORED we find wearin' a Nazi uniform, they're gonna die. Now, I'm the direct descendant of the mountain man Jim Bridger. That means I got a little Injun in me. And our battle plan will be that of an Apache resistance. We will be cruel to the Germans, and through our cruelty they will know who we are. And they will find the evidence of our cruelty in the disemboweled, dismembered, and disfigured bodies of their brothers we leave behind us. And the German won't not be able to help themselves but to imagine the cruelty their brothers endured at our hands, and our boot heels, and the edge of our knives. And the German will be sickened by us, and the German will talk about us, and the German will fear us. And when the German closes their eyes at night and they're tortured by their subconscious for the evil they have done, it will be with thoughts of us they are tortured with. Sound good?

That's what I like to hear. But I got a word of warning for all you would-be warriors. When you join my command, you take on debit. A debit you owe me personally. Each and every man under my command owes me one hundred Nazi scalps. And I want my scalps. And all y'all will git me one hundred Nazi scalps, taken from the heads of one hundred dead Nazis. Or you will die tryin'.

Sorry, could not resist ;)

I personally think Kang went back in time and changed history so that Red Skull and his followers took over Nazi Germany and changed to their whims. That makes sense because Kang was at the beginning of the short.

Uh, no. Maybe you should tell him the cartoon he made and the cartoon he SAID he made are two different things.

So we see Hydra coming from the east, through Russia, Poland, Sweden, and Germany, CONQUERING GERMANY, the sieg hiel is replaced by a raised fist, and Nazis are never mentioned , we never see one, there is no talk of Hitler or German high command, but somehow this in not a total whitewashing of WWII? And your quote even mentions this is all because they want to appease the German market for toy sales!

If they wanted Hydra to be some sort of third party that threw in with Hitler that would have been one thing, but that?s not the show they made.
If you can find a Nazi in their cartoon, he would be less then a French Vichy.

Just who is Yellowjacket?
Is it Joshua Fine? Dana Booton? Eric Rollman?
I need to find out more about this, but I starting to think this is a good time for them to retire from the entertainment business.

Did you completely ignore the part of the full quote where Yellowjacket said that the Nazis not being shown in A:EMH was completely beyond their control? I don't see why they should retire due to their bosses not letting them do something...

What they showed is simply in contradiction to what you are suggesting.
I don't even know who this Yellojacket is, so I'm not saying anything definitive. It's just my gut reaction.

Hey guys, remember the episode of Hey Arnold! where Grandpa bragged about how he beat up Hitler? Looks like we won't see anything like that anymore.

If i remember correctly, they had Savage running the show( which did not happen in real life) and they didn't use any actual images.

Plus they had high tech weapons, which they obviously didn't have in the real world.

Point is, it wasn't very accurate either.

That, or the Red Skull overthrew the old order himself. He always mainly cared about himself of course.

Except, regardless of what some people mistakenly believe, it's not about "hurting the children". It simply because in some other countries the display of anything Nazi-related in public is prohibited unless it's for educational, artistic or scientific purposes.

Besides, there weren't any super heroes in the actual WW2, so they never were all that historically accurate.

And really, if people want 100% historical accuracy, you have the history channel for that.

Well Savage did tamper with the timeline and altered history. (hurray for in story explanation)
And while savage time did not show the nazi symbol or the name itself their was enough imagery to make it painfully obvious they were the nazis... namely HITLER! Savage had him frozen so that he would not interfere with savage's own plans

Unlike the short which removes ANY evidence of the existence of nazis. even in the very beginning they show that HYDRA's conquest of europe didn't even start in germany, having them start east of germany and move west. There is nothing left... hell i don't think they even mentioned this was world war 2.

I guess animation doesn't count as art...

I find it curious that the person working on the show insists that children's shows cannot depict or mention Nazi's but several have on Saturday mornings. Have standards actually changed? Because if they have then why are episodes of Spider-Man and X-Men still airing here? I guess the difference might be because Captain America was merely a cameo in those where as in this series he's a major player. Even still it seems contradictory to children's shows within the past decade.

You'd think if any nation on Earth would be opposed to white-washing the Nazis out of history, it would be Israel.

"The rule that cannot be broken can surely be bent."

The fact of the matter is that lots of kids cartoons have managed to portray relatively realistic Nazis without breaking these restrictions. Others have already cited A Savage Time, but all the time travel makes that an iffy example. Let's look at Old Soldiers from the 90s X-Men toon, I dare anyone to find a single frame of that episode depicting a swastika, or a single mention of the word "Nazi". Yet when you see those two goons in black uniforms patrolling the streets of 1940s Paris, you immediately know who they're supposed to be.

Plus, there's a big difference between using swastikas and other Nazi imagery to promote Hitler and his ideals, and using them to portray Nazis as the monsters they really were.

There's a big difference between using creative license to expand upon or tweak known history a bit, and pretending one of the most world changing and devastating conflicts in living memory never happened.

Should Nazi's be allowed in children's cartoons? Absolutely without a question yes.

But will they be allowed in modern children's cartoons, particularly ones that are international releases? Unfortunately, probably not, unless Germany and the other problem countries stop trying to white-wash history by removing any references to Nazi Germany in products that aren't considered "art."

I'm afraid it's as simple as that, and unless enough people in those countries mount a campaign to stop this rubbish, we'll just have to do with what we've got.

As a Jew who's aunt was murdered by the Nazis (as well as two of my grandparents' entire families i.e. spouse, siblings, parents, etc. Both my father's parents went through Auschwitz.) I'm disgusted by this. You can't just replace Nazis! People need to see them for the monsters they were! Stupid Marvel! Oh, the Nazis were being manipulated by aliens were bad enough, but erasing them entirely!?! Inexcusable! Atleast in the DCAU they actually showed the Nazis were evil monsters, even in Savage manipulated them. There you saw they were evil regardless, Savage just gave them a better chance of winning. I was looking forward to this show, but at this point I'm considering not even watching it.
