should i write this story?

i am thinking about writing a story about a guy who becomes brotherly attached to a little girl in his neighborhood. he discovers she has cancer and she suddenly passes away. it takes a dramatic effect on him. he becomes emo and starts doing poor in school and secludes himself from the world until his mother passes away and he has to step up his game to take care of his little brother on his own.
 
It may have an interesting plot, but it all depends on how you write it and how interesting it is. I mean, lots of story and movies how plots like that, it is not fully original, but they make it good and interesting.

If people read it and like it, and think it is interesting, keep writing!
 
For me it would seem strange for a young man to become attached to a young girl, seems wrong in my eyes. If it was his sister, yes, or cousin, yes, then the loss of his mother too.

I don't know much about emo so cannot comment on that part of the idea, but the idea of him suddenly realising he has a brother to take care of now. May just work.
