Should I use a clear coat for a semi-gloss spray painted nighstand?

I sanded then spray painted a nighstand in semi-gloss black (even though now I realize I should have went with a satin black..).
Now I'm not sure if I need to use any coat on top of that and if using the clear coat will make it shiny? It doesn't say gloss coat, just clear coat, for protection and durability etc. But I don't know if it's worth it..
