I bought a used 2001 pontiac grand am (86000 miles) it ran well for a couple days, then it started to idle rough, then when I was on the interstate and when it went into 5th gear it wasn't getting anymore power, I could push the gas all of the way down and it was still slowing down (the RPM's went up but it didn't do anything else) now it won't start, a friend says it looks like the car might have been in a wreck, anyone know what might be wrong? should even try to get it fixed? or just try to trade it in?

ok first you did not blow your T-belt and or chain ,If you did that the car would not have allowed the rpms to go up, you might have more then one problem .lets start with the rough idle it may be the idle valve going bad or is bad . now the fifth gear problem could be a little harder do to we do not have all the info.we need ,let me ask you this question is your car a automatic or manual ? if it is a automatic you may need some transmission work ,price will vary but that would not tell you why the car will not start could be a battery or the starter is going out , now if it is a manual it may be the clutch gone bad which would not allow you to start the car .i would pay the 75 to 100 dollars to have it inspected at a shop then make your mind up from there. I hope I have helped a little more .
