should i trade my ford f250 gas for a ford f250 diesel?

i have a 2001 ford f250 xlt extended cab 2 wheel drive super duty lariat edition it has the v8 5.4 should i trade it for a 1999 ford f250 super duty four wheel drive crew cab and i think it has the 7.4 diesel?
also what are the mpg for the diesel if i did it right my truck is getting 15 mpg is that average?
