i was wondering if i should buy a cbr 900 rr as my first bike, i am 20 years old, 5-7 and 165lbs..i am very confident and have no fear of driving this bike at all. All i would like to know is if there is someone that agrees with me. The bike you start out on does matter some, but what matters the most is how you drive it...if i baby this bike and the way i drive it, like i would with even a 600 then i believe i will be just fine...do you?

Uh no. Since this is your first bike how would you baby it like a 600. A first time rider and a 900CC machine together mean there is an @ss whipping looking for a place to happen. IMHO it is just too much to start with, and would set you up for failure that you would hopefully survive to ride again from.

I wish when I started driving bikes, I would of got a 900 or better. I started on a Honda F2 CBR 600. Loved the bike but after 2 months it was just to slow for me. So of course I sold it and then invested more money in to Gsx 1100R. I wish I bought this bike first. I could of saved some money. So if you can ride a bike and be cautious of other people I say what the hell get the 900

If you have a motorcycle salvage yard in your area, take a walk through there and see how many hot sport bikes they have with <5k miles and the forks bent back to the footpegs. Ask about a spare engine for a GSX-R or a Hayabusa and see how many are available from the widows and moms of guys who just HAD to start out on the hottest sportbike they could find.

If you can pass the test, you don't need anyone's permission. But I will say goodbye now, and it's been nice to know you, because I might not get the chance later. 8^)

Statistically speaking, inexperienced riders and big bikes have a much higher potential for injury and or death. The weight and handling of bigger bikes is different and takes time to get used to. The power available is obviously much higher. Bigger bikes accelerate faster, but slow down slower. A smaller bike will still go fast, but is easier to handle in emergency situations. An inexerienced person with no fear of a bike is asking to put themself in a bad situation. An experienced person always has a healthy respect of their bike.

So, IMHO, a 900cc is too big for a first bike.
