Hey folks, my first question on Yahoo Answers. So hear I go.
I have been a FAA licensed A&P (aircraft maintenance technician) mechanic for 14 years and I went to an awesome vocational technical high school which earned me a four year background in electronics all the way up to digital troubleshooting and repair.
In my career, I have:
1 year composites structures fabrication
2 years overhauling turbine engines
11 years doing line maintenance on B-727 737 747 757, L-1011, DC-8 & DC-9, A319/320
and I cant get a job to save my life. I know there are about 100,000 unemployed licensed aircraft mechanics in the USA. I am thinking about going back to school for a few things.
1. I want to use the credit from ay A&P license and get my 2 year degree in aviation sciences. Should only take about 1 yr with current credits.
2. Definately getting my FCC license although I have alot of exp. repairing avionics on aircraft - but no bench exp which FCC would help with
3. Getting my IA (inspector authorization) license
4. Taking a continuing ed class at the local jr college for welding
5. Continuing ed class for NDT
then going for BS in management.
I'm just trying to seperate myself from the rest of the unemployed fish out there.
So what am I missing? I have tried to apply with wind turbine companies, pneumatic and hydraulic overhaul companies outside of aviation, elevator repair, escalator repair, theme parks, trains, you name it and I dont get 1 job offer. My resume is very professional so that is not the problem. It's like there is a billboard in the air for the world to see that says "DONT HIRE THIS GUY!" What the crap? I'm sick of this.
Someone please give me some advice.
Thanks in advance.
Signed,
