I have a '99 Malibu with 102k on it.
I took it to Midas to get the oil changed and they said coolant was leaking into the oil and making it a milky color and that it was a cracked head gasket. The estimate for a fix was $2,500.
The associate said that soon my car will be useless without getting it fixed and that I should get rid of it.
I don't really want to get it fixed because of the cost (even if they may have over estimated the cost).
Can I use it as a trade-in for another used car at a dealership without telling them (maybe change the oil right before trading it)?
It may not be the most moral thing to do, but I'd rather do that than sell it to some unsuspecting schlub for a couple grand.
What should I do?!
Also, I am not mechanically inclined and could not fix it myself.
So, I know nothing besides what they told me when I took it in - that I have a "cracked header" and that I "should think about getting a new car soon"...
