Hi, the oscars and baftas are coming up and I am really looking forward to watching the shows. I do however find it more enjoyable watching the ceromony knowing that I have watched at least one of the films nominated as I then get involved more. I am going to the cinema this week and I really dont know If I should see Slumdog Millionaire or The Reader. Can you help me?

Slumdog Millionaire definitely, The Reader is worth seeing if only for Kate Winslet but Slumdog is a much better film and in terms of the Oscars is a lock on for nomination (and will most probably win) whereas The Reader... isn't at all.

Although Kate's performance, along with those of the rest of the cast in The Reader are being praised, that's about all the praise the film is getting. Saw it on Saturday. I was impressed by the performances, but it didn't have the emotional punch I felt it should have had.

Not seen Slumdog yet but going to see it on Friday.

General concensus on t'net says that Slumdog is pretty amazing overall and The Reader is alright but a bit naff and up itself. (I'm just the messenger; haven't seen either myself.)

Just come back from seeing Slumdog. Absolutely wonderful. Some bits were a bit unbelievable, but on the whole, it was really gripping.
A totally feel good movie.
