I've had allergies since I was tiny and I'm 21 now. For years, I never knew what it was until I eventually figured out it was cats through process of elimination. I've never seen a doctor about it before. It's pretty severe though. Within 10 minutes of going into a house where there is a cat my face puRAB up, my eyes water and swell, my nose runs uncontrollably, i have long sneezing fits, and i cough and wheeze. After having an allergy outbreak like this, I'll often get sick with a cold or sinus infection. In fact, my tonsilitis was so chronic that I had to get my tonsils and adenoiRAB removed at 19.
I recently moved into a new house off-campus near my college. My allergies went haywire while I was moving my stuff in! I had to leave the house because it was so severe. We have a subleaser in the house and I asked her if she had a cat at any point and she said no. I was just in town for the day and have not been back to the house since. I'm getting really nervous though because I'll be living there permanently starting in 2 weeks. I don't want to be miserable!
What else could be in the house that caused such an allergy fit? I can't imagine it's dust or anything like that because I've never reacted to that before. Will seeing a Dr help? What might they be able to do for me?
