Should I paint my tub to cover stains, and what kind of paint should I use?

Wax

I burned candles down in my tub, which I do often. They usually burn straight down to the wick or leave a small color stain which I've always been able to clean up easily. This time, the wax melted all over the place and though the wax cleaned up very easily, it seems to have left major color stains. I used comet, OxyClean, and bleach, to no avail. My roommate and landlord won't be happy at all about this. Now I'm thinking maybe the best thing to do is to to do a corrective paint job just on the stains, but I have no idea how to go about it. What kind of paint to use? Should I sand before hand? Will the corrective paint be obvious? The tub is really old and should probably be replaced, so I would want the paint to blend is as much as possible. Any suggestions? Please help! Thanks!
It is a white ceramic tub. Thanks!

I take it by tub you mean the bath tub? You don't say what material it is made of, maybe it is GRP, you may have stained it is such a way that it can not easily be fixed. If it is GRP (fibreglass) then the surface is created in a mould using gell coat, you would have to do very well to match the smoothness of finish and then only by respraying the whole tub. It may be better to replace the whole tub, check on site such as freecycle to see if anyone is remodelling their house who may be throwing away a good bath tub.

As an alternative you may be able to buy a new one and get some money towards the cost from the landlord.

Tip don't put candles on the bath in future, put then on ceramic tiles that can be wiped down again.
