I want to build a website, and I have limited programming experience (I know HTML, programmed a few things in Java before, but not a whole lot other than that). What are the pros/cons of each? Which one is easier to learn? Which one has longer lasting power? Does it really matter? Is one more appropriate for a certain situation than the other? I've heard good things about both Ruby on Rails and PHP, but I just wanted some perspective before I devote a lot of time to learning a language. Thanks
