Depending on the state you live in. One option is The State Guard. ( Not National Guard ) In Virginia we have what is called the Virginia Defense Force. We support the National Guard. Train with them plus we help our State.

I want to join the army as well as work in the medical field-Pulmonary Disease Officer specifically. I heard about the reserve Medical Corps but I am unsure, because I do not want to be in the army to see combat. Another major perk is that they help pay for school. so can someone please provide me some information on how I can work as a Pulmonary Disease officer in the army? Is there a civilian job in the army similar to it? BTW, i'm only 16 and a junior, so i still have some time before a decision is made, but i want to start mapping out my college plan and afterwards. thank you.

Also, i've been told that there are numerous jobs in the army that do not include combat. I'm not talking about a medic here, but a Pulmonary Disease Officer.
