Should I have hubby recharge my AC in 2005 Honda or take it to a mechanic ?

That does not sound like a recharge issue. It sounds like a blender issue. The blending unit controls where hot and cold air flows and how the air is directed. It may be as simple as a cable issue or as serious as a controller issue. Neither are really a job for the do it yourself person.
 
You can buy the gage and refill adapter for about $20 bucks, Check the freon level and if it is low you can refill it your self.
 
The only thing is its still blowing cool on passenger side but th edriver side is blowing warm air. Would we save a lot doing it ourselves?
 
Depends on the problem, if you have to replace the whole A/C unit then you're going to pay for parts and then you need to know how to install it which isn't simple. If it's under warranty then take it to Honda and make them do it, if not then try and find a local specialised dealer or mechanic who works on Hondas.
