Should I go back to school given my financial situation?

I have a house in Florida which I just now rented out. I am thinking of moving back up to Chicago. Lived there for 15 years. In Florida it's impossible to get a job, for me it is anyway. Up North, I have some connections, people who can guide me if I go back to school. Thinking about getting a MA, but I still haven't paid my BA loan (about18K with interest that capitalizes 6%!) On the one hand I think the MA will help me find a teaching job once I'm out. On the other I am nervous to get more loans. I will also have to have a job so I can pay my rent, bills etc.

What would you guys do given the money situation and this economy?

Thanks

I would try to get a teaching job with just your BA and use the employee benefits from your teaching job to help pay for your MA. With a student loan hanging over you, and a need for pay, a job is a better strategy right now. There are some parts of the country that are desparate for teachers. Call up various teachers unions (or the NEA) and see if they can tell you where the need is great, and look into those cities.

You also may want to look into the corporate world for a training/organizational development job, which has similar skills to teaching and tends to pay more money.
