Should I get the Droid Incredible or wait for the Incredible HD?

street dreams

Just signed up for Verizon's 69.99 Talk, text, and data promo. Now I'm itching to get a smartphone. I had my eye on the Droid Incredible as there are many good deals out with this phone.

All this talk of the 4G network, I wonder if I should wait for the Incredible HD. Rumor is that the HD comes with a front facing camera.

So I'm debating on...

1. Is having a 4G phone really worth it, especially with the rollout so new (bugs and kinks)

2. If I get a 4G phone, does that mean I need to change to an another (expensive?) plan? Which gets rid of the sweet promo that I just signed up with.

3. Getting a phone now, or waiting a couple of months or longer for this phantom phone.

What other features does the Incredible HD have that the original Incredible doesn't have?

Thanks!

I believe the HD might be, but Verizon is not confirming it, due on February 2011.

Very likely as an early adopter, you will be paying extra for the extra speed.

The phone mentioned should have a bigger screen than the Droid Incredible, 4.3" vs. 3.7". Still I would think the old DI has the AMOLED or SLCD screen that may give it better color contrast.

Other features are not clear, but possibly a second generation Snapdragon, which is more relevant for geeks. Probably some refinements in the HTC Sense interface but nothing to really kill for.

You do have a good opportunity to get the Droid Incredible at no initial cost, with an unlimited plan. Note Verizon might be getting itchy fingers to discontinue unlimited data plans, and if that is the case, I would like at least, a lock on an unlimited data plan for two years.

The price seems good I say go for it if you're looking for a chance to save money or go for bang for the buck.

All new Droid Incredibles are coming out of the box with Android 2.2 or if not, you will soon get a hit where a system update is available on the phone, and all you need to do is click yes.

I'd be tempted to stay with the Incredible; I've tried a few 4.3-inch phones (Evo 4G, Desire HD) and they usually feel too wide or like they'd snap in half in your pocket.

The HTC Merge *might* be coming sooner, and may be more of what you want; it should have a comparable screen to the Incredible (after the LCD switch) but a faster processor. Not sure if it'll ship this year at all, but if you can wait for the Incredible HD, you can wait for the Merge.

i wouldn't plan to wait for a 4G phone, unless you know you'll be in the 4G coverage area. i have no idea what kind of area verizon or any provider will cover for that matter with 4G reception. just speculation.

Excellent question as I am in a slightly similar situation. I dumped Verizon like a hot potato in 2003 when we had nothing but billing issues and reception problems. I ended up going with Cingular and that was merged with ATT and we have been pretty satisfied with their service to date.

My issue is that my iPhone 3g is running slowly after the IOS 4 update and I am really in the "mood" for an android phone. After seeing the Droid X (which I felt I wanted), the Samsung Fascinate, and the Droid Incredible....I really like the size of the Droid Incredible. I think it matches much better with the size of my iPhone 3g.

I have heard the rumors about the Incredible HD but if it is any larger than it is right now I would personally prefer the Incredible. While the Droid X and the Fascinate (or even the ATT Captivate if I decide to stay with ATT) are just a tad too big for my tastes. Aurelian NAILED the "usually feel too wide or like they'd snap in half in your pocket" feeling that I got from the others.

The other issue, if it applies to you, is the unlimited data plan as mentioned earlier. I do not know how much actual 3g data you need would be but it appears that phone providers are going to a more tiered system and that could potentially nip you in the rear.

I am a bit of a gadget guy so whenever I look at phones, computers, etc...I like to get the most bang out of the product. What I do know is that if I was in the market for a smartphone a few months ago the decision to go with the incredible, for me, would be a no brainer. However, like I am sure most folks here (perhaps), feel a bit of a buyers remorse by getting a nice product ONLY to have a newer, faster, better, shinier, bigger, more whistles....come out a month after purchase.

Just remember, when you get your smartphone....ENJOY IT! Bottom line is that in 2 years you will be ready for an upgrade (unless you purchase early) in two years and will be on the forefront of the latest and greatest!
