Should I get it serviced or ask my mechanic?

My car is being very loud and behaving strangely. I only bought it a month ago and it has no service history. Should I take it to my mechanic or should I get it serviced at a different garage?

And what does a standard car service involve?

You'll have to excuse my ignorance as this is my only my 2nd car and have never got a car serviced before.
It's a 1999 peugeot 206. The engine was just generally louder and if I'd put it into 1st gear when coming to a stop it would make an awful noise like I was revving the engine but worse.

It seems to have calmed down a bit but I'm still unsure of what to do. I dont trust my mechanic 100% but is there any reason to trust a service garage any more than the mechanic.

Surely your mechanic is capable of servicing cars - usually, only oil & filters are changed, other checks & adjustments are usually done too.
Take it to your mechanic for diagnosis & repair & have him change the oil & filters at the same time.
With no prior service history, there's no point in starting one, but regular checks & oil changes will increase your car's longevity & reliability.

Well, if you don't trust your mechanic, rightly or wrongly, it makes sense to go elsewhere; contrary to what often seems the case, most garages do a good job, if only because they want you to come back in the future. You could always ask them just to take a look and give you an idea of what's wrong, and get an opinion at another place if you don't feel happy with what they say; they won't start taking things to bits without charging you, but most will at least look and listen.

Do you not have a more experienced friend or relative who might have a clue about what's going on?

get it to a mechanic. serviced wont really do anything.
how loud? really loud?ould be ur exhaust. oits an easy fix thats usually overcharged

standard car service? oil change, possible new plugs, and change of air filter. nothing to make it less loud.
