Should I get another vehicle or replace the engine in my 2000 Ford Contour?

Hi all, thanks for looking at my question.

My Contour needs and engine....I have been waiting for 3 weeks now for my boyfriend's brother-in-law to find one from a scrap yard. I am not sure that it should have taken this long. What do you think?

Anyway, I am wondering if I should buy another vehicle in the $1800-$2500 price range that will hopefully last for another 2 years.
In addition to a new engine, the car needs exaust work
and I am not sure if a CAM is part of an engine, but it needs that too....
also the gas meter does not work. The previous owner let the car run out of gas one too many times.
I have sunk a lot into this car and am trying to decide whether to keep it or to get something else. What do you think?

I'm going thru the same thing, But.
If you are going to that extent once you have the junk yard engine, what do you want to happen?
If you just place that engine in what guaranty is there that something is wrong with that engine?
So, to get it right you need to more or less rebuild the engine, an overhaul!
By the time you do that you have about the same amount af money into it as a crate engine (New).
A crate engine comes with a guarantee/warranty. depending on who installs it.
Gatorengines.com has several bad reports of being a rip-off
everdrive.com has good prices
flitelinesupply.com and crateenginedepot.com are good too
