Should I get a Xbox Arcade or Xbox Elite?

It's my birthday on the 4th of June and since I am turning 13 (a teenager) I was thinking of getting a Xbox 360 as my main present. My parents would definitely rather get the arcade because it is cheaper but the thing that concerns me is the memory. I am not a hardcore gamer so will not need very much memory but will the memory on the arcade be enough for me to save my progress on a couple of games.
