Should I discuss my previous involvement with the University that I am applying to????

...although the Director of the research fellowship (at the University I'm applying to) wrote me a letter of recommendation and the admissions office may be familiar with the program?

Should I talk about something they don’t know about instead?

Would it look contrived to keep mentioning my involvement with this University?
