I've been looking to buy a car since my old one died in December. I really wanted to get a car before my next semester starts next week but I haven't had much luck. My brother found a 1998 Honda Civic Dx coupe automatic with about 150,000 miles on it for around $3,000 he thinks he can talk the guy down to $2,500. I would like some opinions as to whether or not I should take it or wait and hope to find something else.
Pros:
-It's a car and it runs
-It's a Honda and my brother worked at a Honda dealership for a long time
-It has no major mechanical or physical damage
-only minor interior wear
-good gas mileage
-If I buy it I will have money left over to buy books and such for school
-If I don't buy it I have to wait for something else and continue to rely on my friends and family to get around which will be difficult with school
-If I don't buy this between school and work I don't know when I'll have time to look for a car
Cons:
-It's got 150,000 miles on it and it is over 11 years old
-No cd player or anything because it's the base model unit so I'd have to buy a head unit
-I'm not sure how reliable it will be and if I transfer and commute 45min in the fall
-My brother says it needs about $300 worth of minor parts to make it the best it can be
