Should I buy a new Chevy or a used Toyota?

-the 09 Chevy cobalt puts us over-budget, but comes with a warranty
-the 04 Toyota echo has way better fuel efficiency, and will put us under budget
- this is a car for me and my gf, and the main thing we want is long-term reliability
