Here's the thing.. By the end of this month I am purchasing a new motorcycle. I've never driven a motorcycle before and only have some experience with dirtbikes...nothing like this though.
I am taking a motorcycle rider course the 19th-21st of this month and as soon as that's done and I get my M endorsement I will go make a purchase. The 2 motorcycles I'm looking at are either a new 2009 Kawasaki 500R or a Kawasaki Ninja 250R.
I am 5'4 - 5'5 and only about 126 pounds. So yeah I'm a small guy compared to your average rider.. I'm also 21.
Before going to a motorcycle shop everyone was saying "get a 250r" it will be perfect for you.. you'll like it etc.. Then I did some research and found the Ninja 500r. I went to a motorcycle shop and sat on an 09 500r. The dealer said I looked good on it (not style wise) and I was able to push it forward/backwards in neutral... and when off kickstand I'm on my tippy toes but he said that's fine and I look perfect for it. The bike does feel heavy though. I think its something I can get used to though.
I am a bit intimidated cause I know the 500R has a lot more power than the 250r does and everyone I talk to says "you'll be fine" What they don't seem understand when saying this is that I'm smaller. I will fly on a 500R or even a 250r compared to someone who is 5'6 and up with a lot more weight than me.
now don't get me wrong I am not scared to learn at all.. this is something I want to do. Its just intimidating.
I guess what I want to know is in your opinions (and only if you truly have experience or knowledge on this subject please) is do you think I can handle a 500R ? I didn't get to sit on a 250r because the only one they had was used and being worked on. I do like the stylish look of the 250r more.. but I think I liek the speed/performance of the 500R ninja.
2 more questions. 1: I live in las vegas, nv. would i be able to drive something like a 2009 500R comfortably say to California or any other state? Like if I had a few days off work and just wanted to cruise somewhere.
2nd question.. would I be able to wheelie on a Ninja 500r 09' ? Now I'm not saying I'm going to try or anything.. right now that is way above my skill level and I'm not even close to wanting to attempt anything like that. I just want to know.. for my size.. and the power/style of the bike.. is it able to be wheelied?
Thanks for any help and sorry I typed so much.
