The prices are similar between these two. The Range Rover obviously looks better, but I am getting mixed messages about it from review websites regarding reliability. Also, the Explorer has about 10,000 less miles on it. Should I take the risk of poor reliability and go for the Rover, or stay "safe" with the Explorer?

Go with the explorer, less miles More relyable and part are easier to find and generally cheaper it will be easier to maintain expecially if you plan on doing it yourself and the aftermarket parts for the explorer will be better becuase alot of the engine and drive componants are the same between the explorer and the pickup trucks and even cars.
the rovers are cool but parts are hard to find expensive and its a hard truck tow ork on.
