Should I buy a 1992 Toyota Corolla?

Right now I have a 1996 Ford Ranger 2.3. It's been getting terrible gas mileage (about 13-17 mpg) and it's very slow. I've been looking to buy a different car and I found a 1992 Corolla. The guy says that it's been leaking transmission fluid. He said it just needs a new seal. I didn't get to test drive it because it had no fluid, but I started the car and it fired right up. Not a bad looking car, a few dings here and there and a little dirty. It's got 201,000 miles automatic and he is asking $800 for the car. Is that a good deal and will it be able to accelerate faster than my truck? And what kind of gas mileage does the car get? I did some research but different sites gave different mpg estimates.
 
A new trans will cost considerably more than $800. I would have it inspected first before taking it. You could be getting yourself into lots of unwanted trouble. I don't know if it will accelerate faster than your Ranger. But it should get over 30 mpg easily.
