Should i be using bettafix for dropsy on betta fish?

I've had my betta for about two years. About a month ago, his stomach became enlarged. I believed that it was just constipation because he showed no dropsy signs, so i treated him for that with the pea method and cleaning the water more.
About 4 days ago, his scales began to slightly tract outward on one side and yesterday the scales on slightly less swollen side did too. He is always gasping for air so I took some water out to make it easier for him to reach the surface. At the moment, he is sitting on a plant at the top of the water. I have also been doing epsom salt baths. After researching reviews and info for curing dropsy, i went to the pet store for medicine. As I was buying Maracyn II, the expert lady said that it would probably kill him because it isn't made for betta fish, so she gave me Bettafix. I did the correct dosage, but now i am worried for him because everyone online has been saying that it only helps with minor problems such as fin rot and scratches and their fishes with dropsy end up dying.
I almost wish i bought the Maracyn and had him die than knowing that he died from an infection that was barely being treated. So I want to know if the Betafix is enough to save my poor fish?
P.S. I know that fish with conditions like dropsy are already too damaged and don't have a good chance of recovering, so I want to know any ways of making him more comfortable.

Try putting him in a larger tank
and setting the tank temp. a
few degrees higher then normal.

Best of luck to your fish.

Keep me updated and let me know
if he pulls through.

NO - Bettafix is WAY too weak of a medication to even begin to help with dropsy. Epsom salt baths are good, keep those up. Maracyn and Maracyn II when used in combination cover your bases so far as both bacteria types - gram positive and gram negative. If you are willing to spend the money you can pick up Maracyn Plus also but I would at least get the Maracyn and Maracyn II. I'd pick up these medicines ASAP. It's been awhile since I treated for dropsy so I do not remember the dosage for any of the medicines, sorry - but I don't know how many gallons you have anyway, so I guess that's that. :) You should be able to find the dosage you need by Googling each medicine. All 3 medicines can be used at the same time. Good luck with your betta but as you're aware, it's a difficult road ahead with him, especially if he's already pine-coning. :(

Bettafix is not enough to save dropsy, I'm afraid, as you saw that it is mainly for fin rot/popeye and other smaller conditions. Maracyn/Maracyn II is fine for betta's and is commonly used, I recommend you go back and buy it.

Reducing the water level and adding plants for easy access to the top was a good idea. You may want to make sure that you're giving your fish the proper nutrients by offering him a varied diet. Betta's are primarily carnivores, so their staple pellet/flake diet should be supplemented with protein such as blood worms, brine shrimp, tubifex, etc. Your fish will also need minerals and vitamins. Crushing up vitamin C pills in the water once in a while will also help your fish be healthy.
