I'm leaving in the next few months and I'm really worried. Is it as bad as I'm convinced?
the physical training worries me too. I'm afraid its going to be too hard or something and I won't pass...

nah, dont be worried, if your not in shape they will get you there, their pt program is designed to build you up now..not like when i came through..i have numerous friend as drills and they say that they cant treat thier privates like they treated us..it sucks..but you will be ok...just learn to laught it off...you will need that skill for the military..trust me

There have been many people join the Army and go through basic training. They all survived and learned a lot about discipline and themselves. You aren't the first and you won't be the last one, either.

You will do well, and be better off for the learning and training.

If you're worried about the physical training, start preparing now. Get into a good fitness routine and start running. Nothing hard core but if you can manage 2 miles in under 15 minutes before you start basic training, you'll be well ahead of the curve. (and your running shoes will be well broken-in - that means you need to buy a quality pair of running shoes now if you can at all afford it. Make it a priority item.)

Working on pushups and situps would be an excellent idea, too. If you start spending a half hour per day on your own with a couple of months to go before you leave, you'll find the pace in basic training very easy.

And if you smoke, stop now. Quit on your own instead of having it forced on you while you're under a lot of additional stress later.

If you get started now, you'll breeze through basic with ease. Don't sweat the rest of it. Just keep your mouth shut and your eyes and ears open and pay attention and do what you're told and it will be over before you know it.

I guess that it's kind of good to be worried about Basic Training, that puts you in a good mind frame about it. However, remember that the Drill Sergeants, as mean as they like to act are only there to train you and to turn you into a soldier. They are not there to and cannot hurt you.

It's normal to be worried.

But you aren't going to die there, and it's not physically impossible, so try not to obsess about it. Start working out now, and the physical part won't be a problem, since about half your class will show up completely out of shape.

Keep this in mind. They WANT you to be successful.

The people they want out are the people that have no business there in the first place.

You mantra should be: Do what you want. I will finish this program at the top of my class. Now, take your best shot.

Just keep saying it over and over to yourself and you'll make it just fine.

Thanks so much for serving.
