If Pharmacy doesn't interest you.Don't go then do what you want not what anyone else wants. If you do and you want to drop out you will be stuck with a big bill. You will be a great artist.

I'm 16 years old, entering my senior year of high school and I'm still unsure of what I want to study in college. I want to go to art school and study to be a designer, but I'm really not sure if my parents can afford to send me to art school, plus they want me to study to be a pharmacist or something that pays a lot. I wouldn't mind perusing a career that pays a lot, but pharmacy doesn't really interest me!
What should I do?

This may sound like cliche advice, but follow your heart. You can apply to college with an undecided major- you typically don't have to declare one until the end of your undergraduate sophomore year. I applied to college undecided and figured I would remain that way until I was absolutely forced to make a decision, but I found myself gravitating towards specific subject areas, and I wound up double majoring in fine arts and science. my parents want me to apply to medical school because they think i'll make good money as a doctor, but my interest in medicine is purely personal. plus, with my student loans, i doubt i'd be raking in the big bucks anytime soon. art keeps me centered and balanced, and my scientific background brings something unique to my work, or at least that's how i feel. i suggest applying to a liberal arts school, where you can choose from a variety of subjects, whether it be art or science. test the waters, and you'll find your way. becoming a pharmacist requires most of the same courses medical school requires, like organic chemistry- which i imagine would be particularly dreadful for someone only pursuing a career for the size of the paycheck, and not because it was their life's passion. also, even if you don't apply to art school, make sure to send a copy of your portfolio to schools as a supplement- a non art major friend of mine applied to one school with an art portfolio and got a great scholarship, simply because they thought he was talented.

good luck.

You should do whatever you feel right doing. There are college loans that you could always apply for and scholarships. As an artist you'll never be rich...it just doesn't happen :( But you can probably make a steady living. I was an art student at an art college but decided to pursue a nursing career instead of an art degree. I still do art on the side. :P Just do whatever you want to do in life. Your parents shouldn't decide for you.

go money gets in the way of to many peoples lives. not saying that you should go live in the wild. but still shoot for your dreams before it's to late.

I'm having the same dilemma, because i would love to go to art school, but i want a secure job also. After researching a ton I've heard that graphic designers make a lot of money and it's a kind of free reigning job. But you're going into your senior year at 16? Congrats!!
