Should dogs eat dog food or dine a la carte?

My partner cooks for the household and tonight he fed the dogs
wholemeal toast & pate for starters, a small bowl of spaghetti
with broccoli and home made meat balls followed by chicken breast,
tuna and pink salmon with multicoloured mixer. He couldn't understand
why I found this over the top. Are dogs really capable of appreciating an
a la carte menu or could they just as happy with a tin of dog food and a bonio
each night?

Many dogs develop gluten allergies and all are sensitive to dairy and most cereal grains. Canine means meat eater. They do like some whole plain cooked vegetables, like carrots or sweet potatoes. they should never have spices, salt or preservatives
