I think the idea deserves some merit, but wait for the liberal weak " mustn't punish the guilty it's not their fault " to arrive & spout about an eye for an eye & the whole world goes blind!
When I believe putting some deterrent back in to the failing UK justice system might do victims a favour & prevent repeat offending full stop.

Why stop with those offences? What about burglars who ruin lives or aggressive policemen who undermine law and order or bankrupts who ultimately steal from all of us or tax evaders who steal from all of us or incompetent bosses who steal the quality of life of employees???
There are two main problems:
1. Defining the scope of the relevant offence, and
2. whether crucifixion as a punishment contributes to the kind of society we think we want to live in.
There is scope for more socially accountable punishment, such as the historical punishment of being placed in the stocks in a public place. For violent crime against the person, I think even birching (caning) has a place but I think it would be bad thing for society to go too far towards gratuitous public violence in its justice system.

Just do what Bulgaria did a few months ago - Give them a free single ticket to Europe - on the condition that if they return, they will serve the rest of their sentence.

The thing that gets me, is that in the UK we actually have prisons specifically for foreign nationalities - not british inmates. Why on earth should we pay for the upkeep of foreign prisoners ?
Years ago - there were traded just before winter, as food was scarce, and it made sense to return them - Bring this system back I say!
