If a person faces the death penalty and flees to Canada, Canada will not extradite that person back to the country where the crime took place because Canada is morally against the death penalty. Only if Canada is given assurances that the person will not face execution will the person be extradited.
Is this not harboring a known fugitive at tax payers expense? Should Canada not extradite that individual solely on the basis of the outstanding warrant and allow that country to carry out its own judicial process whether or not the Canadian government is in agreement with it?
I'm not asking for an opinion about whether or not you agree with the death penalty. Is Canada's extradition laws encouraging killers to flee to Canada to avoid the death penalty in their home country and does Canada have a right to interfere with another country's judicial process.
