Right now I have a mid 2010 macbook pro, 2.4 core 2 duo, 4 gigs of ram and 250 gig hardrive. Since the macbook airs came out in October, I"ve been really contemplating switching over. I'm a student in college, and my job involves a lot of music. The computer is great, but there are a few things I don't like. One is the optical drive, even though I use it, I mainly stick to streaming or I use some other alternative. I also love having my computer with me at school and at work, but at 4.5 pounds, it's not a device that is enjoyable to carry around all the time, especially when I have books or other items with me. The last is the hardrive, its slow, and I hate having to always wait for it it boot up every time I want to load something. I don't do heavy work on my laptop, but I still do a decent amount between work, school, and at home.
The macbook air has what I want, the standard 128 ssd, size, weight, and even the no optical drive, but these come with their own cons as well. I have to sell my current computer which can be a pain trying to get a decent price out of it. The other con is paying the difference.I would live with paying whatever was left over from the profit I earned from selling the macbook pro, but its still another thing I have to deal with.
What should I do? Is it worth selling the macbook pro to get the benefits from the ssd, weight, and size of the macbook air? Or should I pay the 300 or so to upgrade the HD to ssd and the ram to 6 or 8 gigs and just deal with the added weight of the macbook pro? I know all the signs point to the macbook air, I just need help deciding if its worth going through the process of selling my current computer. Just to add, this is going to be strictly my secondary computer.
