Should basic training/boot camp?

It does and yes it should ...its part of the indoctrination ....its hard to have pride in something you dont understand and its hard to understand something that you dont know the history of.

I don't know about other branches but in the Marines there is something called Marine Corps knowledge. It is a book that contains everything from how to spit shine boots, to the maximum effective range of a .50 cal machine gun, to the Battle of Chapultepec. The history of the Marine Corps is just as important as shooting a rifle or martial arts. Everything in the Marine Corps has some kind of history to it. History is a big part of boot camp. So yes, history should be taught in boot camp.

why? the only people that need to be aware of that are the leaders in the military - officers and upper command. They give the orders and the people in basic training/boot camp have the job of following orders, nothing else.

Of course. Each service member should be proud of their heritage. As for morals, of course. The unit commander may hand down the orders but it's up to the individual to handle a situation with integrity, they're the ones with the finger on the trigger, not the commander.
