The SA curator is suggesting that the pitch will favour a spinner, should we mess with the line-up and blood McGain in preparation for the ashes, or stick with our winning combination?
MBTM welcome home, lol.
It has been too quiet without you.

The Team Should Be Like This

Phil Hughes
Marcus North
Ricky Ponting
Michael Clarke
Michael Hussey
Brad Haddin
Andrew Mcdonald
Mitchell Johnson
Bryce Mcgain
Peter Siddle
Ben Hilfenhaus

12th Man: Simon Katich

Yes they should play Bryce McGain instead of Macdonald in Cape Town.

They do have an Ashes tour coming up so they need to see if he can handle test match pressure.Although he is 36 age should not go against him he's the best spin bowler in the country.

McGain will get picked to go to England,so they need to give him an opportunity now.
The series against SA has been won so now is the time to play him.

Brilliant answer Right Round...he asked if we should play McGain, so you drop Katich.

There is a good case for playing McGain, but I look at it like this.

We are good with 4 pace bowlers. Katich and North bowl spin, but only in the 2nd innings on Day 4 and 5. There is no evidence to suggest that McGain could do any better...but he can't contribute with the bat or in the field, that's definite.

I would play this game the same as the previous Test. McDonald hasn't scored any runs yet, but has bowled well enough...give him another game at this level to see if he can score. His bowling is very economical...that's a good thing I feel.

yes. That will give McGain his first Test cap.Warne thinks he is the best spinner in the country. From IT pro to Test cricketer will be a great transition, what a profile this man has!

What ever happened to Jason Krezja? Off in cricket limbo down in Tassie somewhere, maybe. Certainly he's another spinner to consider? Or am I missing him being sidelined by injury or something?

Nonetheless give McGain a go - the bloke could possibly pull something out of the bag...

Yes give bryce mcgain a chance to prove himself after doing all the hard work to get selected from domestic cricket, might as well dig deep and look for a possible replacement for shane warne,...

And who ever said drop simon katich from the team better have a good look at themselves, hes 1 of the form batsmen of the team, consistent and coming off some good scores for christ sakes. Macdonald needs to more time to get in form with his batting, we need a decent all rounder too

g'day Richie,

Thank you for your question.

I would give him a go and see how good he is ahead of the Ashes especially if it is expected to be a spinner's wicket. The curator considers that Newlands has traditionally been a good place for spinners.

Regards

I say yes, they need a front line spinner. I'm surprised that MacDonald even got a go in the tests but in the end he did ok.

Get McGain in the team!

Definitely. Spinners are essential in a test if you want to take 20 wickets. So Australia should develop a spinner. McGain seems to be a Interesting Pick and a good choice. Let them give him a chance
