get their degree? I mean all students, not just mathematics, science or engineering majors. A few universities have this policy. Should all students have to pass calculus to get their diploma?
Some people think this would be an excellent idea, and would help weed out the slackers early.
Yes, even drama majors, art history majors, history majors and psychology majors.

What's wrong with expecting a high level of math literacy from university students? I don't mean anything more than Calculus I, not what is expected of science and math majors. Surely everyone expects excellent writing/communications skills even from science and engineering majors(these people do have to communicate after all).

No Way! Not everybody is going to use it in their career. I think higher expectations should be made of freshman classes to weed out slackers such as grade expections being at least a 3.0 or higher. Everybody is talented at their own thing. Flip that around.. just because a nuclear physisist has no idea how to paint a nude portrait doesn't mean he should have to do it to graduate.

thats moronic, My school prides itself on being the most open to students with disabilities of all kinds including Cognitive disabilities and as a Special Education Major, i don't think that would help the world in any way other than to weed out people who suck at math.

If 99% of math teachers could teach (which they can't) i may be more for it....
