Should a professional dog handler be prosecuted to the full extent of the law for

he should be taken off dog handling, prosecuted and put back on the beat as a pc after a disciplinary hearing, unless they decide to kick him out. police are quick to pounce on other people who do something wrong. he will have known about leaving his dogs in a car, but chose to ignore them so they died.

leaving his dogs in his car.? ..
..
.where they died of heat stroke.. RSPCA officials are investigating the case, and police are to hold an enquiry..

The dogs where left in the car, whilst their handler attended to another matter, even though their kennels were only yards away.

The dog handler in question is a police officer - do you think he will escape prosecution..?

the officer has made a poor error of judgement,
but I'm sure he is suffering enough at the loss of his companions and will never forgive himself, by all means hold an enquiry, but dont hang this man out to dry, living with his mistake is never going to go away,

If the dog died...yes...he can rot in prison for all I care. As far as him just leaving the dog in the car goes, I think they might charge him. it is hot, now that its summer and that is animal abuse.

There is no question in my mind at all..
Not only should he be prosecuted but he should also lose his job and pension too
This was irresponsible beyond all reasonable behaviour.

Yes.
they were highly valued dogs and took ages to train them. If he really had care for them other than working them like robots he would've thought about their welfare with a bit of smpathy and common sense. Seems selfish to not think about them. Prob will be given a 'harsh prosecution' which will later be dropped or reduced when the media turns away.

Imagine that extreme painful death! terrible cruelty.

Its just an animal, dogs are not people.
What if he left a rat in his car and it died, should we call the F.B.I. or the U.N. There are more important things to worry about

He better not it is his profession working with the dogs so he above anyone should know how the dogs should be treated.I hope he gets the maximum for this and i hope the maximum in such things is custodial.

You would have thought the Police...of all people...would know better than to leave the dogs in a car in this heat....any member of the public would be prosecuted so why not this police officer....though I dare say he will never forgive himself any way...so he is already suffering for this !!!

I once sent for the Police when I saw two dogs in a car on a blazing hot day. There was not a window open and the dogs were panting so hard and were very distressed. The Police broke the windows to get them out and they had also brought water with them. The owners were notified as they were sat in the Restaurant, and were busy talking to people on the next table.. When they came out the Officer told them that the dogs would be taken away and they could get them the next day, but would be fined for causing distress to an animal. They said they were sorry, and the Officer said, you would have been if they had died.

Yes, he should be prosecuted. Will he? If a police officer then probably not.

This actually just happened last week with a professional dog handler (AKC conformation) and 7 dogs died. If nothing else the owners have a very good civil case. The case for her is being evaluated by prosecutors right now.

BTW, different areas will have different laws for this. I would expect there to be some sort of animal neglect laws in whatever area you are talking about.

EDIT to Crucial...if nothing else, if this was a police dog then it was highly trained and worth plenty of money (we are talking well into the thousands). Is that not enough of a reason for you?

I think he probably will avoid anything more than a fine.
I BELIEVE he should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and have the right to keep any animal removed from him.
So - he would lose his job and go to prison. Seems fair to me.

The dog handler should have known better and he better not escape prosecution since anyone can tell that what he did was idiotic and he knew better than to do it anyways. How could he be that stupid?
