I took out a collection of short stories by Somerset Maugham from the library.

It was the second volume and a few stories really stand out. I absolutely loved "The Man with the Scar," and "Rain."

I was hoping someone knew of other similar authors who wrote about far away travels, adventure, and interesting characterization.

If you like classics, you can't go wrong with the Sherlock Holmes stories for adventure and characterization. They're better than most people think, and most people have never read them.

As for far away travels, there's a book called "Invisible Cities" which doesn't exactly classify as short stories, but each chapter is about a journey to a different place and the whole book together is the sort of thing that gets a person thinking in a way they might not have before.
