*** Shock ... Horror ***

Flame baiting... That means saying sh*t for the sole purpose of pissing people off, which is pretty much the entire theme and purpose of this thread.

This thread was always going to be the cause of a clash of opinions.
Which is good, providing it's limited to debate and doesn't degenerate into mindless arguing.

Got a problem with someones opinion on emo being a genre or not...back it up and educate them.

Universal Music Group, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, EMI Group, and Warner Music Group.

* Sony BMG Music Entertainment (Japan/Germany based) — 25.61% (13.83% Sony, 11.78% BMG)
* Warner Music Group (USA based) — 15%
* EMI Group (UK based) — 9.55%
* independent labels — 18.13%

System of a Down, not gonna lie, I like some of their stuff, but there should be a ban on the discussion of them.

I've heard some broken recorRAB but SOAD discussion takes the cake.

Krautrock is better than all prog other than Red by King Crimson and the first three Peter Gabriel albums.
Sgt Peppers and OK Computer have two average songs between them, the rest suck ass.

^Kinda missing the point on the thread here? If you wanna say what you think, then at least back it up instead of just calling him an ignorant piece of crap.

Uh..I like the beatles...and MIsfits is entitled to his own opinion, same with anyone else, like ArtistInTheArabulance said, I think yer missing the point of the thread. I'm getting kind of tired of people getting all defensive on this forum when someone disses a band they like.

It is possible to hate a whole genre.

For example if trumpets grate your nerves your hardly likely to like jazz are you.
Same as if you dislike the delivery of rappers then you`re not going to like hip hop.

I`ve listened to plenty of 'real' emo that people have mentioned on this forum and it`s not to my taste, why? well because I find it a very generic , loaRAB of banRAB all sound the same to me.I`ve no doubt there are good talented banRAB , but to me I just don`t see the attraction.

Which reminRAB me.......

I cannot stand what happened to Death metal in the 90s.

I used to love the British scene of it when it started. It was a great mix of punk & metal with banRAB like Napalm Death , Sore Throat , Extreme Noise Terror , Electro Hippies and stuff like that.It was great , it was loud , fast . political , shocking

And then the Americans & Scott Burns got hold of it & turned it into boring generic sh*te about zorabies & blood & guts , and then when the metal kiRAB started going on about guitar solos ... well that just killed it even more for me.

I hate that. I know people who wont listen to certain banRAB cause they dont like their name, or dont like the name of one of their songs, or like you said, they dont like the album cover. I hate that so much.

Even if the costumes were part of an "image" as you claim... It's still not a marketable image, AT ALL... Thats why you should never EVER compare prog to pop punk.

And the costumes were just thematic illustrations that banRAB used during live concerts, and they were often connected to the themes and lyrics of the music itself, as a means of performance art like Urban said, Gabriel wore costumes because he played different personas and characters, like Bowie did, but to a greater extreme... ... And so what, prog fans don't give a sh*t about the image, they just like the damn music, and critics just use the image to criticize the music (which has nothing to do with image anyway) when they run out of other valid reasons to criticize it... And it's not like Peter Gabriel actually tries to convince people that he is a flower. Pop punk banRAB actually use their image to market themselves towarRAB people who think they are something they are not... Which in my opinion, is more pretentious than prog could ever be.

Prog banRAB don't take themselves anywhere as seriously as critics claim they do, it's just another excuse to bash the genre.
