I work at Sonic and for those that dont know thats where you deliver food to cars on skates....ya i know gay but its good money. Anyway, i cant stand working there...everyone there doesn't like me and the managers are complete assholes to me. I've told my dad several times i wanted to quit and look for another job and he just dont seem to get it. He goes down there and asks for more hours for me...and i fucking hated him for it..i dont wanna be there, but he dont care. i really dont know what to do..i want to quit, i hate the people. but he wont let me! How fucked up is that

He basically told me he doesn't want me to quit because any other job i get would be a cut in pay. As of now im bringing home more money in tips in 1 week than i make on my check in 2 weeks. I make anywhere between 50 - 80 a night in tips and 5.15 an hour. I know its good money for my age but why should i have to work at a place i dont enjoy working?

Bargain with him that you will cut your outgoing to match the incoming? So it wouldn't effect him...Or are you meant to be saving?

Or work more hours in a more enjoyable job to get the same wage?

Maybe look around yourself, if you can find a job that has the same or more pay that you think you'd enjoy better, that'll show him there's more to life than what's in front of his face. Sure you are getting good pay and that is enough to stick around, but it certainly doesn't hurt to search around on your own to see if there's something better both job-wise and pay-wise.

Why? Why does everyone hate you? Managers are assholes everywhere, it's their job. Some know how to handle people better than others, but for the most part, they don't.

The reason I am asking is that I have heard all of this before. Is it really that everyone hates you, or that you just hate the job and that attitude is the real problem.

Maybe all you need to do is adjust your attitude then you can like the job and keep the good money. Just a thought. But I really need to know the true reason. If everyone really does hate you, why? If if really is that you hate the job so much that your attitude reflects that, that's another matter altogether.

I can tell you, that at 17 there really aren't many jobs that you are going to find that you will like. Since the money is good. Try finding a way to make the job at least tolerable and save your money for college. Then after college, you become the boss and try to be a better one than the ones you worked for here.

Work and get educated. Stay with one job--even if you hate it---for as long as possible. Then, when you go to get a new job, employers smile and say "hey, this kid worked at the same job all through college. He must be smart AND dependable!"

Just some advice from the old folks home.

:D

I'm gonna chime in with a "listen to the two posts above me." They both clearly know what they're talking about and it's excellent advice.

Also, as to the attitude readjustment, this may sound like a dig on you but don't introduce your job as "ya i know its gay." It's not, all you're doing is delivering food. If you sucked them off while they ate, then it would be gay.

Yeah, what he says. I wiped old people's drool and butts for several years, then sold computers to assholes for several more years. Work sucks. Its what you do with it that matters.

Well, thats just how its suppose to be. Every friend of mine (expect one guy who works with his eye doctor dad) bitches about how shitty their job is.

Just think of it this way, its only temporary. Once your done with high school or college, then you can start your less shittier job.

btw, I dont think you have to wear the skates. I've only seen one person ride those things, and i doubt he was forced to.

Yeah, unfortunatly you stick with your job for as long as possible to show you're dependable.

I work as a telemarketer now... The single worst job one can have because no one likes them. I get told off an average of 50 times a night by people who cannot comprehend the fact that because they put their number on a credit card sheet, they consented to getting calls, and others who don not understand that I do not physically dial the numbers myself.

Oh well... 3 more weeks left to it...

If you really want a new job that will net you about the same, and probably more, see if you can't get a job delivering pizza. I thought it was going to suck at first, but man, the money is pretty great. Yeah gas prices suck, but it's a non-issue when you can make close to 100 dollars on a good night plus your hourly wage.

Make sure you know the area well though, and make sure the pizza shop you apply to sees a decent amount of business.

Heh, it's great. Hardly feels like you're working alot of the time when you're just cruising with the windows down, listening to some jams.

Agree with most of the suggestions already provided.

1. Keep the job you currently have, but start seriously looking for a job that you might like that provides the same pay.
2. If you can find a job where the pay is comparable, talk to your dad about changing. Show him that you have initiative.
3. Figure out why the folks you work with don't like you (or vice versa) and do something about it. To be honest, it doesn't really matter if your co-workers like you, or if you like them. Unless you're planning on having them as perspective roommates, all you have to do is be civil to each other.
4. Few folks like the job they're doing. Take it in perspective, and find something about it you do like.

Quit Whining, you get Good Pay, get a college degree, work their part-time, then get another job, otherwise fuck what your dad wants - parents don't always know whats best, and get another job. A Job that you like, is it better than a Job with loads of pay?
