i can walk as little as a couple blocks and start to feel a very strong pain in my shins. ive been pretty docile the last couple years and was a very lazy couch potato. now im trying to get in shape but running is certainly not an option with this shin pain. this was also a problem when i was younger and joined the army. but the entire time i was in basic training the pain never went away. i just worked thru it so i would not have to repeat basic training. im wondering if the fact im flat footed may have anything to do with it? im getting new shoes as well. i drink plenty of milk but that doesnt seem to do anything, thinking it may be a calcium thing or something with week shin bones. ive been walking around a lot(2 to 5 miles every day or 2) for the past 6 weeks and it seems i can go a little farther before feeling any discomfort. im pretty tuff so I always just keep going through the pain. even if i stop walking for a few days the pain is always there, especially if i try and message my shins. i can touch certain spots like right above my ankles and mid shin on the inside of my shin, that could make me scream if i put any more then a little pressure on it. are these normal shin splints? what can i do to fix this?

Flat feet often cause shin splints, the medical term is Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome, flat feet weaken the calf muscles.

Shin splints can become serious if chronic, an orthopedist can give you a Rx for physical therapy, even Rx shoes or arch supports, and take an x-ray to rule out stress fractures. (a family doc, medi-clinic, or podiatrist could do that too)
